  • Poi Video Lesson Instructor: Isa "GlitterGirl" Isaacs

After 5 years of work with Temple of Poi, the premier poi school in the world, Isa Isaacs partnered with Sean Gies. They founded PoiGeek to create the worlds first poi education web site to offer lessons in a variety of formats for an affordable price.
After a 15 year career as a computer geek working in various areas including systems

engineering, computer consulting, customer support, courseware development, training, marketing, project implementation and department management, Isa embarked on her most recent 5 year entrepreneural endeavor with poi. Inspired by the 2004 offering of the computer based training program she created at Temple of Poi, Isa brings these experiences together to offer PoiGeek as a digital poi academy. Isa, also known by her performance name “GlitterGirl”, founded her first poi company in 2002, Temple of Poi, which celebrated 5 years of education to over 1100 students worldwide in 2007. GlitterGirl Poi Fire Dancing

Isa started the school with the belief that teaching the art form would enable her to have the greatest possibility for mastery and could raise the awareness and standards for poi artists everywhere. The work with Temple of Poi offered countless other gifts including a Flowology™ coaching practice and a poi community of amazing and diverse individuals who study with Isa.

After appearing in a cover story feature, Poi oh Poi, in the SF Weekly magazine in November 2004, GlitterGirl earned international fame in several threads on the leading poi on line community forum, Home of Poi. In addition she has been internationally recognized in the Circle of Lights 4 and Circle of Lights 5 videos as well as her 2007 appearance at the Japan Fire Festival. Her competence and attractiveness translates well to film and her fire dancing has been featured in a commercial for Pioneer Sound Systems. She is currently performing both as a solo artist, with her dance partner Hunter and with her the Temple of Poi dancers.
Inspired to spread the joy of poi fire and flow dancing to more artists and audiences, Isa developed the Temple of Poi Fire Dancing Expo.

GlitterGirl Fire Dancing The show was developed to create an affordable opportunity for artists to share their gifts with audiences for free. At the same, she wanted to bring the art form out of parking lots and onto credible stages. Isa accomplished this and created the first full length, free and legal fire dancing show in San Francisco’s Union

Square in Spring 2006. The Temple of Poi 2006 Fire Dancing Expo featured solo performers, group choreography, and a full length show put together by GlitterGirl’s one hit wonder troupe, mN8Fx, and in fall 2006, released a DVD of the Temple of Poi Fire Dancing Expo. The 2nd Annual Expo held in Spring 2007 featured performances from international renown artists and received local recognition as one of Bay Area Dance Week’s cornerstone events.

Temple of Poi earned additional recognition as the Best Dance Studio in both 2006 and 2007 in the Best of the Bay awards. Isa has been a guest and co-host on San Francisco radio show Reality Sandwich aired on KPOO. Isa was interviewed in her first television news appearance in February 2007on KRNV television news in Reno, Nevada. In April 2007, Isa represented Temple of Poi during a 5 minute segment hosted on KRON, San Francisco.

Isa and Temple of Poi were also featured in the SF Gate San Francisco Culure Blog in May 2007, a business profile in the San Jose Mercury News in April, 2005; won Best of the Bay awards in July, 2004 as

    GlitterGirl Loves Poi

well as Best Dance Studio in 2007 and 2006; have been highlighted in the Golden Gate [X]Press, Dance Spirit Magazine, Hooping.org and Mary Lou Quinlin’s Time off For Good Behavior and were featured on the front page of the Living Section of the San Francisco Chronicle in August of 2003.

Isa spent over 25 years exploring various music projects and instruments including voice, flute, electronic music composition, and has written, recorded and published a CD of original songs performed on piano.

When she is not teaching, performing or developing her two companies, PoiGeek and Temple of Poi, she can be found pursuing her own evolution and development in body, mind and spirit, bringing the wisdom she gains to the school and community.
