Have you ever attended a class – especially a dance class – where your instructor said, “All you do is…” and then they showed you what to do rather than telling you in words? Or have you attended a session where the teacher instead said, “You just…” and then performed the move rather than explaining things you didn’t understand?
PoiGeek is committed to bringing quality, step by step education to students where clear drills, exercises and troubleshooting techniques are a standard part of each lesson. Our lessons offer specific information for the footwork, body positions, left and right sides of the move as well as detailed instructions about how to put all these pieces together to create the move or combination being taught. In addition, each lesson offers standard troubleshooting techniques and often includes injury prevention techniques as well as footage of the patterns being taught performed in flow.
Our Vision
Our vision is to create a comprehensive site offering education from instructors around the world interested in teaching their material to students around the world. In 2008, you can expect material from US instructors Isa "GlitterGirl' Isaacs as well as Mike "ICoN" Dombrowski with more coming.
In time, we are excited to put together a PoiGeek instructor tour featuring instruction from teachers hosting their lessons through this site. The PoiGeek vision is that so many poi students worldwide find such compelling material through this site that instructors earn enough income through the lessons they present on this site to support themselves such that they can then tour around the world and offer donation based classes to poi artists everywhere, thereby enabling the expansion of the art form, community and knowledge base of poi practitioners world wide.
